I have been staying away from most Thargoid content as I thought it would be too hard – and it turns out, it wasn't… well, not all of it! I had done some ground CZs (no, it turns out you don't need the totally optimised AXI Chieftain) which was great fun and made loads of money. Last weekend I decided to visit the maelstrom – challenging but definitely not impossible – and had fun trying to get the mats needed for the caustic heat sink launcher. First, I had fun trip picking up the Anti-Corrosion cargo rack mats and figuring out how to put that into my DBX (smaller fuel scoop was the answer).
Getting to the maelstrom is a question of running away from intercepts (and not carrying any guardian technology). I am still pretty sucky at staying alive in the caustic cloud and probably should have gone on Discord to get some help but I didn't. A few rebuys later I had all the mats except the Caustic Tissue Samples – which I ended up buying from a carrier. Anyway, after getting the caustic launcher (it turns out it's an unlock and you can buy as many as you want) I decided to get the TG Pulse Wave Neutraliser – and enjoyed visiting the guardian sites to get the relics (was very easy) and then visiting the active thargoid sites to turn them into unclassified relics (also very easy – the SRV completely destroys the scavengers no problems at all). I enjoyed driving my SRV around the sites and scanning them, picking up the mats from destroyed organic structures and scanning uplinks.
So a weekend of some easy and some challenging gameplay got me this far. Next step is to go visit the inside of the maelstrom and start using the extraction missiles.
Really, give it a shot!
