How do I not suck at this game?

I have owned this game for almost two years now and I have never been able to be successful in it, after the year and a half mark when my friend just quit the game because he also is in the same boat as me, I have had no reason to really play because I have never been successful, I have never touched an M4 outside of the pre-wipe events. I am on the verge of quitting this game altogether because no matter how many guides, no matter how many "How to not suck at this game" videos I watch, I just don't understand how people can be successful from what I perceive as them barely putting any effort into this game but they still somehow make it to the max level traders or the million rouble kits. I have tried grouping with other players that have played the game much more and have made it there but I can never keep up or I am always the one dying therefore not getting anything out of playing with people.
