First of all, I see the glimps of the new patch, but the only thing I am excited about is that old cards get a rework.
Sadly,I have not been playing for months, just waiting for enough patches to feel that the game is playable again. But time was never an ally, no exception to gwent. And I want to comment on that.
I see it. As every company these days, CDPR wants money as well. No shame on that. But the problem with those people who start to fail these days, that they are not consuming what they are producing anymore.
Bad books because writers do not read much in the genre they write in. Short-term moneys are more important to producers than long-term moneys. Everything is uninspired.
Now I can blame the Gwent team for not playing their own game-even if they do play-and call it a post. But as a community, we have to do better.
This road is a long arc, so long that we cannot see far but we know there are always ups and downs until the very end. Thanks to today's intelligent minds, we can put every lie into that short term plans, to make it look like we are up in heaven, and sell everything we have. Then when we reach the end of it, nobody cares. Because we already sold what we wanted and never needed long-term goals anyway. After that short term heaven, there is a big-big highway to hell.
The opposite of highway to hell is… stairway to heaven; without a lie, we must construct the least risky short-term goals in order to maintain our player base. And build up enough of those short-term goals to create a safety net. Without small risks, we created a window to make a big risks. At best, the game is better than ever; at worst, we are back to zero. But still, we are back to zero with all those new changes. This means that the new zero still looks different than the old one.
But when the arc goes down, you get scared to fall much. Take fewer risks to stay where you are now, because not falling is also a way to be high. Thus, going between small no-risk changes to another, thinking that slowly falling is a better approach than free-fall. But no-risk is the risk itself. NG appears to be the same to me. You made numerous changes to other factions. I am still disgusted by NG, even though I main NG. I hate my favorite faction.
Many keywords are bullshit, many mechanics are unhealty, and most themes are half-assed. I would trash it down, but I would not do it because I hate it. I do it because I love Gwent.
The community cannot trust the product if the product doesn't trust its community. I hope this patch will have some love for old cards. And hope new cards support old themes and mechanics. Instead create new half-assed ones.
Tall but empty tower is cold and joyless.
I will write more today. I hope to see you this evening.
