Imagine for a second that your Viking is tasked with retrieving a sacred amulet from a fortress with high walls occupied by some other evil NPC viking faction on an another island far away.
If the game were Skyrim, or Assassin's Creed, your options would basically be:
- Go aggro and raid the fortress
- Go stealth and sneak in, steal it, and get out
- Some combination of the two
Wow, such roleplaying!
Now imagine that you've been tasked with this quest in Valheim with Valheim's mechanics. Imagine what your options could be:
The options listed above^
Dig a secret tunnel (I realize the mining mechanic would have to be adjusted to allow for this, but seems feasible in a future update) and with careful planning and recon, get right below the room where the amulet is and pull some Ocean's 11 shit.
Lure a troll to the fortress to distract all of the enemies, slink in, grab the amulet and go
Craft an enemy uniform from whatever unique and difficult-to-find items are required and sneak in
Etc.
Of course I don't think this type of thing will ever be on the roadmap for the devs, but I hope other RPG devs take inspiration from Valheim's sandbox-style mechanics.
