I hope this isn’t the end.

TLDR: I'm scared the game will end after the upcoming event and Elite will die here without ever realizing its potential. Potential which is present in the lore, but hasn't been implemented.

I've been waiting for so long for the narrative in Elite Dangerous to change for the better. Ever since the introduction of the Guardian ruins and tech I felt hungry for more of THAT and ever since then Frontier has fallen extremely short of expectations. We got the Kraits, we got the fleet carriers, sure, but what happened to that flair that sparked the curiosity I felt back then? There are no guardian hybrid ships yet, no Thargoid hybrid ships yet, nothing cool and interesting, just the same old same old "Go here and collect stuff and bring it back and we'll reward you with some text story." They've been eluding to all this cool stuff that could be happening but it never happens. No Guardian homeworld, no Guardian AI Constructs, No planet-bound alien monsters to fight, no Thargoid ground invasions, no long mission-arcs with story behind them, only Salvation playing with dangerous toys.

And now it seems like the Thargoids are going to get wiped out and be a rarity in Elite until they shut the servers down in a year or two. Or perhaps Frontier will surprise us and use this opportunity to shake everything up? I'm not sure. Elite hasn't been getting enough love and care from Fdev ever since their weird little park sims got popular, and I'm genuinely afraid that this upcoming event is a scapegoat to end it all for the Elite universe.It would be fitting. Unceremonious, sudden, and disappointing, just like my experience with the game has been since the Cone Sector incident, when the Gnosis was scapegoated by Fdev because they didn't want to admit that there was nothing to find.

I don't understand why a game like this keeps going for the punt instead of a home run.
