All the screenshots from the new update that I have seen were taken from above the eponymous layer of mist. I really hope there will be dangerous things in the fog, low visibility (that maybe you can pierce with a new item or aditional light) and for the ground level to be a place where you don't want to linger. A place where you don your armor and fight.
Above that layer though is a more peaceful world, with struts of rock and root piercing through the mist and way more light. A place where things grow and where you'd want to build and live – even though space is limited.
I'd love to see this concept of verticality be explored. The player would be incentivised to build bridges between pillars and thusly expand their bases. But since support columns are required after a certain distance, some trips to the surface are unavoidable. And also desired, since surely there's new treause to be had as well. A bit like in the swamps, where some players build long walkways and bridges that span whole biomes.
What do you guys think – what lurks in the mist?
