I love Elite, I have three copies of the game (steam, epic, xbox) and have Odyssey for both PC versions. I also only play in Odyssey since the DLC released but since release it's been boring and uninspired gameplay.
I can get over the fact that so much was poorly designed when it was released from "controller" focused HUDs for no longer supported platforms, inability to interact with ANYTHING (we can sit now……), uninspired FPS gameplay (remember when they said it was in-between ARMA and COD lol, considerable lack of content (no new ships, no new guns one year into release, no new gadgets or weapons), and copy/paste settlements that all ran as good as an Xbox 360 game.
But there is so much in terms of design, mechanics and even art direction that they could have gained inspiration from, and instead we got "Press E to Hack".. it's just boring with zero fun.
You take an on-foot mission at a terminal, go to the elevator and press E, go to your ship and press E, fly to the location, exit the ship either kill everyone or some sort of mission that requires you to finish it by pressing E, then go back to your ship and press E, fly back to the station (because they can only transfer funds in person?). Beyond the rinse and repeat missions, the location of the missions is even worst!
Elite lore suggests we've been settled on planets for a good amount of time but ALL settlements look like they were made by the same manufacturer at the exact same time, zero variety! Where are abandoned settlements we can enter? Where are the INRA settlements we should be able to explore!? why does every single CG lack any Odyssey content?
So anyway this is just my rant about a development studio who rushed a DLC to meet obligations by tacking on a cheap FPS element. Let's hope the next two updates actually introduce some fun to the game and not just further fixes and overhauls of systems.
