I've only been playing Elite Dangerous for about 2 weeks, but I'm already hooked on it like no other game before it. I didn't know you could take X-Wing, Tourist Bus Simulator, Skyrim's exploration, and even
But at the same time I feel like I've found a treasure too late. I bought this on PS5 well aware that FD had canceled future development on consoles. But it had never occurred to me until yesterday that maybe their long term plan is to wait until a certain quota of console players migrate their accounts to PC, before they eventually shut down the console servers. 🙁
I have a PC capable of running Horizons, but it is currently too risky of an inverstment to game on because it is my Work From Home computer and my breadwinning tool for survival. On the other hand the PS5 is more than capable of running Horizons, and on the big TV where it gets more immersive than on my humble PC monitor.
I bought Horizons on console for the game that it is. It would be a bonus to me if we'd eventually get Odyssey on consoles, but it wouldn't be a loss if we didn't. Although Odyssey would have guaranteed an avenue for my enjoyment of a subgenre only populated by Star Citizen and Starfield, both of which I wouldn't be able to play because of PC and Xbox exclusivity. It would have been my Odyssey to match theirs. A sort of brand loyalty.
Sadly even for Horizons, I don't know if i'm playing on borrowed time right now. For the past weeks I've been dreaming of a morning where I search for Elite news and find that they've stabilized enough and reconsidered development on consoles, or that some big company bought FD and guaranteed future development on consoles.
