In the heat of battle or emergency the last thing you want to do is have to scroll though a bunch of stuff that are not relevant to the modules you have or the ship/srv you are in.
EDIT: Also, the synthesis area should be under the SHIP/SRV tab where it makes a lot more sense than being under INVENTORY, as part of a wider reorganisation of these tabs
