So mad and frustrated

So I had my first ground shaking event today and the troll spawned in my base. Or so it seemed. I went to sleep and woke up to the troll smashing my house. I died and kept dying since he was right there. So I think, okay get to the portals and get away then come back with, ya know, armor and weapons.

I make it! Woot, so glad. I armor up, grab my weapon and step back through to DIE again because the troll is RIGHT there. So I rez and jam my way through the nearest portal which is the furthest from my main base. No problem, just portal…oh wait, portal is unconnected. Great, stupid troll killed my portal. Okay, okay…time to run back. Lol, except I only have rag armor and managed to make a level one club and I’m in the Black Forest. You can imagine how often I died.

Finally I make it back to my base and my house is smashed, my portals as well as my workbenches and forge and upgrades all in pieces. I start to gather things up and night falls. I think nothing of it as I have a deep trench all around my base until I’m attacked by a large group of greydwarves and die.

Guess what I forgot to do…as I rez all the way back to the furthest base from my main base. I had to get off the game tonight. Im just so mad at myself. Ugh…and I’m confused as to how things are getting past the trenches. Is my base too big? I dug a deep trench around a large area so I could expand if needed but no fences. Did they spawn in the area? Or was it because I don’t have fences up? Just venting a bit and wondering what I did wrong. Any advice would be appreciated.
