Soooo… Vy Canis Majoris.

Ok, I finally made the trek out there, all excited, pumped ! I stopped along the way scanning every Water World, Earth Like, and even some metal rich just to you know put some creds in the bank. As being newish to Elite, more hobby than anything… I arrive at this gigantic star and I'm in Aww so I hit the go button…all of a sudden I'm doing 100c towards this thing… and I go whoa that's never happened before so I realize I'm getting close but is not even screaming impact yet. So I feel I'm safe and it starts scooping all of a sudden I'm building heat, I can not get away because it's maxing out at .33c and I'm screaming at the TV to break away go go go and nope BOOM !!! So, I obviously lost everything probably 100-200mil in exploration data but … where did I mess up? Am I not allowed to get close to this behemoth?? I wanted to get aspect of it's sheer size… but I am supposing that's not allowed. Am i wrong ?? Thanks in advance Cmdrs o7
