A few years ago before Tarkov got the massive influx of players we have today (or at least what we have at the beginning of wipe), The community was very concerned about splitting the already tiny player base between different game modes. Whether it be on a wiping character, non-wiping character, or arena.
After the massive attention the 2019-2020 twitch drops event gave the game, hundreds of thousands of people ended up buying Tarkov, coming from all kinds of gaming backgrounds. A division began in the player base on what they wanted out of this game. Some wanted a slow paced looter shooter, some wanted a fast paced arcade competitive FPS, and some just wanted to play the game BSG wanted to create. Massive disagreements began on weapon balance, movement, skills, gear availability, etc.
Because we're all forced to play the same game mode with eachother, the way in which we choose to play the game varies greatly. Supporting diverse playstyles is both one of Tarkov's greatest strengths, and biggest weakness's. This game doesn't support any playstyle particularly well.
If you play Tarkov as a competitive FPS, you get very angry whenever someone else playing the same way abuses the same broken mechanics you do. If you play the game as a looter shooter, you get angry whenever there's people abusing broken netcode to give themselves an unfair competitive advantage.
Having the competitive FPS crowd have a playground like Arena for them to all play by the same rules would greatly benefit that community. Having a non-wiping character would greatly benefit the community that enjoys a more restrictive hardcore rule set. A regularly wiping less restrictive game mode would benefit the more casual players that don't have as much time as the rest of us to play.
No longer being worried about the size of the player base, i think splitting that player base could be one of the biggest positive changes that could be made.
