I've been playing Elite on/off since Odyssey came out whenever there is an update to see if any thing of substance was added.
Yesterday I decided to play for a bit because I hadn't fired it up for months. Since I had limited time, I decided to take a really simple on foot delivery mission just for the hell of it. The mission pays a measly $70k so I thought it'd be nice and relaxing. Boy was I wrong!
I took my Krait MK2 down to the settlement and disembarked. The typical blue circle mission marker highlighted the person I was to deliver the goods to or so I thought. I walked up to the person and instead of giving me an option to deliver, he was offering a mission. Confused, I proceeded to try repeatedly in vein.
So rather then giving up, I went to a nearby terminal and looked for the person's name in the personnel list and tagged it. Lo and behold, that person was elsewhere in the settlement.
I was running out of time because I had to go out IRL so I decided to run to the person's location when a warning came on telling me I had committed a crime by not submitting to a scan. Apparently one of the guards I passed was trying to do so. I started taking fire, so I thought F this, I'm just gonna take off and fail this stupid mission. Well that was my second mistake.
Taking fire all the way to the landing pad, I got into the ship feeling relieved I had made it without dying, only to see my shields fail and the ship blow up before I made it off the ground! Since when are ground defenses so friggin strong? And to blow up a ship for missing a scan?! What is this L.A.??
So I lost 2.8 million trying to do a 70k mission. It's nothing in elite terms, but man that whole experience left me bitter.
Anyway thanks for taking the time to read this. See you in update friggin 11 😁
