I got Liz Ryder completely unlocked (delivered 200 landmines for her), but when I try to engineer anything, she first asks "what class" with between 1 and 5 options available (what? I've never been presented with this dialog before when engineering modules). So what is that about?
Regardless, no matter which option I pick, for any of her 5 upgrades, I cannot upgrade anything. All of the possible options — for all modules — are grayed out and locked. On the right it says something about needing a higher reputation, which is earned by upgrading modules…which makes no sense. If I can't upgrade modules because my reputation is too low, and the way to improve my reputation is to upgrade modules — that's the old catch-22 (just like the all-too-familiar to me "can't hire you because your employment gap is too big, solution is to get a job with someone else — who will tell you the same thing").
I'm at a loss as to what to do here. I never had this issue with the 2 other engineers I've worked with.
ETA: Just to head off one possible question, I have the necessary mats to do the upgrades.
ETA2: The very first dialog I get when I click on Engineer's Workshop is a "Specialisations" dialog that lists ONLY Armour. There is a Browse All button next to it, and since Armour isn't the module I'm interested in, I click it, and it lists all 5 of her upgrade modules, and I get the behavior described above.
However, if instead of clicking on Browse All I go ahead and select Armour from this dialog and only from this dialog, I do in fact get the standard options I've gotten everywhere else (no prompt for "class", and the ability to modify Armour is not grayed out).
So, what is going on here? Why is Armour and only armour available for upgrading, and only if I don't do a "Browse All" first? This is extremely unintuitive.
ETA3: Apparently the issue is that I was using my trader ship, which has no weapons and thus she could not do any of those upgrades. The hull stumped me until it was pointed out that the Hull Reinforcements modification only works on a specific optional module (which I'd never come across), not on the basic hull that every ship has, which was my initial assumption. So the only upgrade that actually applied to my trade ship was Armour — although as I pointed out, if I did a Browse All and then selected Armour, it did not work. Still not sure why that is the case.
