What do you ‘do’ with the Scorpion?

Less provocatively, is the scorpion just for multiplayer Odyssey combat zones?

My first play with the buggy was an attack on a lvl 5 pirate settlement. I was destroyed by air assets (FDL, conda, SLF) which I thought was pretty cool despite dying (the mission had an update message to say target was tipped off, and the target was whole settlement). On a second try, at a different base, I just went in on foot and terminated the place using a maverick suit. I did drive there and back in the Scorpion though, so enjoyed the new car smell even if it was just A to B.

I'd love to know if there's a load of gameplay I'm just not understanding, because I'm struggling to see the point of the combat SRV given the Scarab is already pretty effective at wasting Odyssey NPCs.

Edit: With patience you can kill ships with it.
