An above average player’s perspective on SBMM

TL;DR – After a string of good games in noob lobbies, I got put into high sbmm lobbies and am lucky to get one kill a game now. Sometimes it's nice have some decent games.

Hey guys, I know SBMM is still somewhat of a hot topic in the community I thought it would be useful to give a perspective from someone who isn't a serious Apex player, but generally above average at video games in general.

After Season 1, I quit playing Apex for a while (I would hop on and play a couple games here and there but not much). At the launch of Season 4, I decided to give it another go and see if some of the work I'd done improving my FPS skills had paid off. At first they did. After about 10 games, I had a 2.5 K/D and carried my team of randoms to a victory 3 times. Probably not spectacular by this thread's standards but compared to the actual average player, that's pretty good.

Then it happened.

My queue times jumped up to almost a minute long and all the sudden I was getting absolutely destroyed by people who had diamond and predator badges. Many of them having thousands of kills on just one legend. One match, I looked around and saw 10! predator trails dropping from the ship. I got lucky one time and got a couple of high level diamond players that carried me to a win but that's about it.

My point is, this game is pretty much ruined for all the just above average players right now because of SBMM. In truly random matchmaking, players like me would sometimes dominate and sometimes get dominated and that's fine. But right now I only get dominated and it makes me not want to play the game.

People seem to only be discussing the players at the top and bottom, but no one is talking about the players like me who are just good enough to get into the high sbmm lobbies but are unable to compete in those lobbies. Players in the 60-70th percentile are the ones really getting screwed by this SBMM system that Respawn has chosen to implement.

I'm NOT saying I want to just run around and dominate noobs all time. I'm okay with having good games and bad games. That just BR gaming. But right now it's ALL bad games and one man can only take so many ass beatings before he gets the hell out of dodge.
