I was looking through tier 9 heavies models in
In this hull down meta it's great, just hide (or ultra-angle) your hull and you're done, the problem? the maus really doesn't benefit too much from hiding it's hull because it has a GIANT easily-penetrated turret, and the weakspot at the top doesn't help! , tbh the VK turret feels a lot stronger because of it's smaller frontal profile compared to Mauschen
I don't really understand this game's balance mechanics sometimes… I undestand the obvious concept of strong turret but ok/weak hull armor, if youre totally exposed, you will suffer by people shooting your hull, specially your lower plate, but how can you be competitive in hulldown situations?
And it's even worse when you consider the fact that most tier IXs will probably use prem shells, and penetrations for prem shells can go throught the roof in tier IX, with tanks easily reaching over 300mm of pen, which can easily pen the Mauschen's 240mm frontal armor, in comparison, if you shoot gold in the Mauschen, it really doesn't matter because most turrets will reach easily 300mm+ armor or have hard angles, and taking by the fact that mauschen's gun isn't that precise, shooting weakspots are very hard from a distance, compared to literally be seeing this.
Also 2 more points: 1- while the mauschen angled turret armor is very strong, it's not fair because the other tanks don't have to angle at all, it's just straight aiming all the time.
2- Most tier 8 heavies can also easily penetrate Mauschen's armor by shooting prem ammo, so it's a challenge even to face tier 8s sometimes, while i really don't see any tier 9 heavy struggling like that
Heck, even a T29's frontal turret is harder to penetrate than Mauschen's one, the gun mantlet is literally the mostly armoured part of most tanks and the mauschen has LESS armor than a t29's, seriously?
Am i missing something? I really wish to hear you guys thoughts
