The Basic Crew Skill Guide in World of Tanks

When it comes to selecting the right crew skills in World of Tanks, beginners often find it challenging. In this post, I will explain all skills and perks in WoT for beginners.

Who are the Crew?

You have 5 kinds of crew members in WoT: Commander, Gunner, Driver, Radio Operator, and Loader.

Crew efficiency plays a vital role in optimizing a vehicle’s performance, affecting aspects such as view range, reload time, camouflage, gun dispersion, mobility, and more.

When your crew reaches 100% experience, you can choose your first skill. After you mastered the first one, you can select the second one. As the skill percentage increases, more experience is required to progress to the next level, meaning that the required experience is not linear.

Crew Skills and Perks

What exactly distinguishes a skill from a perk? Skills start working even before they reach 100% mastery. Perks, on the other hand, only kick in when they’re fully mastered at 100%. This is why it’s not a great idea to choose perks for your low-skilled crews.

Common Skills and Perks

  • Repair (Skill): Enhances the crew’s ability to repair modules. When all crew members have 100% effectiveness in the Repair skill, repair time is reduced by approximately 50%.
  • Camouflage (Skill): Boosts the vehicle’s camouflage value. When all crew members have 100% effectiveness in the Camouflage skill, the camouflage value increases by up to 80%.
  • Firefighting (Skill): Improves the crew’s capacity to extinguish fires. Note that this skill does not decrease the likelihood of fires occurring.
  • Brother in Arms (Perk): Enhances overall crew efficiency by 5%.

For the three skills – Repair, Camouflage, and Firefighting – their effectiveness is calculated as an average.

Commander Skills and Perks

  • Mentor (Skill): At 100% Mentor skill, the commander helps other crew members (excluding the commander) gain an additional 10% experience.
  • Sound Detection (Perk): Acting as a sixth sense for incoming artillery fire, Sound Detection alerts you to incoming SPG shots with a yellow arrow, indicating the direction from which the shot was fired.
  • Recon (Skill): With 100% mastery in the Recon skill, the effective view range increases by up to 2%. When an observation device is destroyed, the Recon skill boosts the view range by 20%.
  • Jack of All Trades (Skill): When another crew member is wounded, the commander replaces that crew’s role. The commander’s efficiency in the substitute role is limited to half the mastery percentage of the skill
  • Eagle Eye (Perk): After a 4-second delay, Eagle Eye allows you to identify damaged modules on enemy vehicles which you spotted.

Gunner Skills and Perks

  • Designated Target (Perk): Enemy vehicles within 10 degrees of your reticle remain visible for an additional two seconds.
  • Armorer (Skill): At 100% mastery in the Armorer skill, it reduces the accuracy penalty of a damaged gun by 20%.
  • Deadeye (Perk): At 100% mastery in the Deadeye perk, it increases the chance of critical damage to modules and crew by 3%.
  • Snap Shot (Skill): At 100% mastery in the Snap Shot skill, it reduces gun dispersion while the turret rotates by 7.5%.

Driver Skills and Perks

  • Controlled Impact (Skill): At 100% skill level, it reduces damage received and increases damage inflicted when ramming an enemy by 15% each.
  • Off-Road Driving (Skill): At 100% skill level, it reduces the terrain resistance penalty by 10%.
  • Smooth Ride (Skill): At 100% mastery in the Smooth Ride skill, it reduces gun dispersion while the vehicle is moving by 4%.
  • Preventative Maintenance (Perk): At 100% skill level, the chance of engine fire is reduced by 25%.
  • Clutch Braking (Skill): At 100% skill level, it improves the maximum traverse speed by 5%.

Clutch Braking and Off-Road Driving are not effective on the EBR 105 tech tree.

Radio Operator Skills and Perks

  • Situational Awareness (Skill): At 100% skill level, it extends the view range by 3%.
  • Call for Vengeance (Perk): Enables a surviving Radio Operator to report enemy positions for an additional two seconds.
  • Signal Boosting (Skill): At 100% skill level, it extends the signal range by 20%.
  • Relaying (Skill): At 100% skill level, it extends the signal range of all allies within range by 10%.

Loader Skills and Perks

  • Intuition (Skill): Reduces reloading time when changing shell types.
  • Adrenaline Rush (Perk): If the vehicle has less than 10% of its hit points remaining, gun loading speed is shortened by 9.1%.
  • Safe Stowage (Perk): Ammo rack durability is improved by 12.5%.

When there are two loaders in a single tank, be cautious. For perks, only the one with higher mastery applies.

For the Intuition skill, mastery is calculated as an average.
