More troubleshooting of the surface texture weirdness mainly affecting AMD gpus, I may have found the culprit…

I've posted several times on here the ongoing annoyingly intermittent issue with surface textures for predominantly AMD users I think

PS This is separate from the 22.5.2 driver issue – don't install that!

I have found that de-selecting the following settings in Steam, Settings > Interface seems to further reduce or eliminate the texture issue happening. Deselect these and restart Steam.

  • Scale Text and Icons to Match
  • Smooth Scrolling
  • GPU accelerated rendering
  • Hardware video encoding
  • Direct Write

Previously about 25% of the time (especially for AMD users), when starting a new game session (strangely more frequently for me when starting via a desktop shortcut to the Steam game), planetary surface textures would have the following issues. To test this I usually first start the game in the on foot training scenario to check for it before starting the main game. When the bug is present it looks like this with oversaturated colours in the surface hills:

Since deselecting those Steam Interface settings every start of Steam and the game looks correct, and stays working correctly for the whole game session even after jumping to other systems., e.g. like this:

More examples of the twitchy surface textures this causes, e.g. surface shiny velvety appearance and bright flashing, are shown in the following:

Issue has been raised numerous times, e.g: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/46398
