Good day to everyone. A little disclaimer for everyone:I have to warn all those people that don’t like all the stuff connected with current political events cause this post will include a bit of that.
So, let’s start. Firstly I’ll introduce myself a little for you to have an understanding who’s talking there. I am an ordinary guy from Russia (17 yrs of my life I lived on the far east which is 6k km away from Moscow). I’ve been playing dota since 2009. Just as everyone else in 2011 I was happy that our (CIS) team had made something impossible. Not only that win gave a huge rise of popularity to games but to the cyber scene at all. I was still cheering Ukrainian players and teams on the tournaments after 2014. I will be doing that in future.
Though I wasn’t active on reddit or twitter or other socials while there were some discussions about huge quarrels or scandals in the industry. What’s happening now is another case in my opinion. As we all know the government of my country decided to start an “operation” against Ukraine. I won’t be assuring you that not everyone supports the whole thing cause u can find proofs of that everywhere yourself.
What I wanted to talk to you today is a reaction of the Ukrainian studios to this situation. Right now in CIS there are 3 studios that cast a tournaments: RuHub, WePlay and Maincast. Weplay and maincast are Ukrainian ones. After the February 24th weplay decided to kick VP out of the tournament even though they’d already arrived to the place just because of their holding (EEE includes both VP and Ruhub). I can understand the anger of the people BUT it isn’t the players who’ve made the decision. Then v1lat started to throw a racist shit on Russia in twitter again and again, some others from Ukraine started too. On the contrary we have Olsior and XBOCT who understand that it’s not people to blame here but government. You know what happened when Kuku said some joke about asian guys. Also, you know what happened to Ceb and Mind_control when they’d said shit about my whole nation. Is it fair at all? Even if we put aside all the events that are happening right now, that attitude towards Russians have been for a long time. Today people that say that they’re not ashamed of their nationality get banned and kicked just for that. Influencers with tons of followers can throw shit at the whole nation calling themselves a russophobe in public. I don’t even want to bring that shit here, u can check it yourself in v1lats twitter. Though when it comes to money, this guy is number 1 to get Russian sponsors. Two funny facts for you to think at the end of that post:
One: When it all started, maincast was sponsored by Okko – russian streaming service. Their partnership was ended by Okko when ceh9 started shitting Russians just as vilat does. As we say here: money do not smell (you don’t give a f about their origin)
Two: firstly vitaly was that sure that he’s so special and important that he decided not to cast on Russian, but yesterday he made a statement that there will be a russian cast 🙂
Once again I am stating that I am NOT SUPPORTING any decisions that my government makes about Ukraine, but I refuse to be ashamed because of my nationality. I hope that cybersport will get rid of ANY kind of racism and discrimination eventually but what’s happening now is terrible.
