Good Balance Appreciation Thread

witcher gwent cards

Rather burnt out from the game due to the state of the meta, and while I agree with most of the complaints I've seen flying around here, I thought it might be nice to highlight cards whose balance we appreciate. I mean, it's important for CDPR to not only hear about the things where mistakes were made, but also the ones we think they did well. Easier for them to stay on the right side of the tracks then.

Personally, I quite enjoyed some small changes they made to make top end cards less ubiquitous. For example: requiring a Dwarf or Crownsplitter already on the board for Novigradian Justice, or having Brathens only create bronze spies you already have in deck (not that this latter reduced his presence too much, but it was a step in the right direction, I feel). Would like to see more cards moving in the direction of requiring more specific deck-building/playing for their payoff, like Regis: Reborn, Lake Guardian: Dusk Aspect or even Cerys: Fearless and the most recent version of Hubert Rejk.

In terms of the Black Sun drop, I've rather enjoyed Flyndr's Crew, which not only encourages deck-building in particular ways but also brings interesting choices when it comes to playing it. If you won R1, do you play into R2 just to get the extra counter off? If being bled in R2, when is it worth dropping it to try and maximize its value? Maybe the card could be broken in a different meta/in the hands of a more advanced player, but for now I found it has just the right balance in terms of complexity of setup and payoff.

What about you? What cards/balance changes do you quite like?
