I struggle with trolls

I'm not THAT new. I've gotten far enough in other playthroughs to be able to burn them down with better bows & arrows.

I've both read, watched, and had demonstrated in-game by friends, the whole "oh, they telegraph so early, just kite / roll / snipe.

I can't… really seem to make that work. At all.

Their reach is MILES. You're always tagged no matter how far you try to gain distance. Gain enough to stay out of range, and you've burned all your stamina.

"Oh, they're slow". No, they're not. Their strides are like 12 feet long. It's almost impossible to stay out of reach without fleeing entirely. The time it takes them to close & swing is less than the time it takes to draw the bow. Can't use the Finewood bow without fighting them because you need metal from their woods to make the cook pot to get enough stamina to fire it more than twice.

Every demonstration video shows fighting them, alone, in a nice, empty, LEVEL, field. But you never get that. It's steep hillsides, littered with huge rocks that seem to get in your way but not theirs. Miles of dwarf-infested forest between you and the nearest level field.

And getting one alone is almost impossible. They're always surrounded by adds, and trying to pull them away always draws its attention no matter how sneaky you are.

I'm at the point where I really need the armor – again – and it's just a massive, frustrating bottleneck. Die 3 or 4 times just to down 1 troll when you need a dozen to make & upgrade that armor.

Like I said, I see how it's SUPPOSED to work. It just doesn't seem to for me, even though I can see it working for everyone else. Feel free to tell me what I'm missing.
