Someone said to update when I got to plains…
Well here's how I got fucked by a deathsquito and succumbed to the temptations of devcommands.
Since that post I've made some gains if I do say so myself. When I last posted I had just made a bronze set and built a raft. I have recently made a full Iron set, got a sweet longboat and have dabbled in some silver. I discovered a lot of things about the game and took a lot of advice that you guys gave me to become better. When I first discovered the fucking swamps I thought I was never going to get enough iron. The first 2 swamps I found had no crypts. Guck was the first thing I found though and the name gave a good chuckle. After I cleared the first 2 swamps which were about 2 islands over from my starter island, I traveled further south to try to find another. I was able to find a another swamp thank god. I didn't realize until after but the first 2 swamps I found were tiny. By comparison this third one was larger than both of the previous swamps combined. I set up a good camp with a nice house and portal/fire. As I'm building this house I hear like a squishing noise, I didn't know what it was so I kept building. Than i see this fucking green ball come around the corner. I think to myself im about to destroy this fucking goomba. I get a fire arrow ready and this fucker jumps and poisons me and I die. Fuck, but I had a portal ready so it was all good. Kill this bitch, realize I need antidote and start looking into that. Get a cauldron and fermenter going and stocked up on poison resistance, and some other shit I figured I would need later.I figured Id search this swamp first to identify some key areas and then come up with a game plan later. I eat some food and set out. I ended up identifying 2 crypts at about the center of the swamp. I suited up and just went for it. I remember from several comments about how good the mace was in the swamp so I had a mace lvled up as high as I could and oh boy this think FUCKED UP the goombas and skellies. Made getting to the crypts a cinch. I did see a lot of draugrs but they are pretty easy to kill with a good roll or just moving out of the way really. On a side note, these fucking draugr archers are got damn SNIPERS. They were a huge pain especially when they are right behind a corner or scrap pile that Im trying to clear. Fucking things gave me the most trouble out of anything in the swamp, including the abomination which is just too high hp so I ignore it for the most part. The Draugr Elites with stars are crazy strong too but they were easy to box in at places and just snipe with the bow. Anyways fast forward to when I cleared both crypts, got like 150 iron or there abouts. Made the longboat first cuz i remember that snake fucker and I wanted to be prepared. Next I made the iron tower shield which I love using. Easy to tank stuff. I also found out where Bonemass was. This fat piece of shit is like half way to the edge of the map. Oh well, I decided to just gear up and start looking for silver since I had a mountain very close to my base. Got all ironed up and started exploring the mountain. I really had no idea what to expect except I knew the wolves were tough but fuck I really had no idea. Im not even going to get into how I spent 3 days on a corpse run being terrorized by 2 wolves. I lost (and retrieved) 3 sets of backup gear but I digress. Anyways once I figured out the mountain and found a silver vein which yielded me about 65 silver I built the silver shield, wolf fang, and cape. I decided to hold off on everything else until I found another vein of silver which I did find, along with the Moder spawn which was very close to home. So here I am with a new vein and I have a decision, go to bonemass or farm for more gear. I decide on the former. Might as well start exploring. I spend a few days preparing food and other essentials, get all the necessary mats and supplies and head out. by the looks of the map I would have to swing around at least 8 islands, with the right wind it shouldnt take more than a day.First thing in the morning I head out. All goes well on this first trip, I found several very large swamps which will be useful later and some more mountain areas. I even found another one of those leviathan islands and gather enough chitin to make the harpoon and knife. All is going very well. As I get closer to the bonemass area I get a familiar notification. PLAINS. oh fuck here we go again. I frantically look around for the infamous deathsquito. I see none. As I continue sailing I pass the first Plains island and encounter another. THis one however had some things the other did not. A whole village looking area could be seen on the coast. Even several lox were just hanging around, I counted 4 in total. I marked the area on my map and noticed I was very close to the bonemass alter. I looked around for an area to set up camp. On the shore I saw a small house. It was in between the plains village and the bonemass swamp in a small section of black forest. I said to myself all I needed was to get down a portal and Id be good. So I rush to make camp. I park the boat, jump out and begin working. No issues so far. I get the workbench down and start repairing the house when this greyling start running around me and into the house. I dont care about damage but it was a small house and he was cockblocking me from putting down my portal. Fuck man. I quickly equip my axe and kill him. Finally lets get this over with. It was in that moment this fucking ninja deathsquito assassinates me in my own home. I did not have enough time to make a roof to finish the house and I was slaughtered in one hit. No portal to return, no more iron for a longboat. Id have to make the trip again in weaker gear on the karve.
This took longer to write than I thought so ill post the pt 2 another time. but fuck me man being one shotted was not fun.
TLDR: finally found plains and instakilled by deathsquito before I could make a portal.
