Posting a comment I made on a post as a full post, digging into the mythology around the name Orthus, which is a new interceptor variant. It’s got some dark implications.

So Orthus in Greek mythology, was the guard dog for the son of Ares, and the names so far have all been pretty on the nose and deity related.

The name can't be a coincidence

Edit: Orthrus was the dog, but it's pretty damn close. Let me do more digging

Edit 2: Orthus is in fact another name for the guard dog of the son of Ares, and is a sibling to Cerberus. Fascinating

Edit 3: he's also the son of a titan, and we know in the files the maelstroms are marked as Thargoid Titans, correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit 4: it gets even deeper, Orthus was the guard dog for the son of Ares' cattle

That has some….disturbing implications, considering the Thargoids have been harvesting escape pods for gods knows how long.
