I previously played up to Dangerous rank in combat and had my shiny PVE Corvette as engineered as I bothered to make it (if the engineers were too far, I left it alone. I did make an exploration ship too, but thats beside the point atm). Bought Odyssey on Steam sale, logged in, did the on-foot tutorial.
Took some legal salvage jobs from the board, and then died. A lot. I've gotten better at the ground combat as time goes by, but my Lvl1 Maverick suit and my Lvl1 weapons just don't do much when I get hot-dropped by pirates. They seem to drop in 6 at a time, and often that's while I'm already fighting an initial 6 or so.
And since these are salvage missions, it's usually on flat barren or icy moons with very little cover.
Other than circle strafing like it's original Doom, am I missing something? I'm just trying to get enough materials to start upgrading gear, and trying out the on-foot mechanics, but so far… the time and risk to reward factor is pretty bad.
