Revisiting Autopilot

O7 commanders,

I wanted to have a discussion about the viability of autopilot now that Apex is a proven "automatic" system for travel. I know the negative stigma around an autopilot feature. I know many Commanders feel as though if you have autopilot why bother playing the game. In my opinion, that's a very narrow view of what Elite offers as a game. It's meant to be played how you want. Recently I decided to dive completely into on foot combat and gameplay. As such, I haven't touched my own ship in nearly 2 weeks. I've taken Apex flights anywhere I want to go. This works out great for me as I usually play while working and the automatic flight gives me time to complete other tasks IRL. So this begs the question, why not have autopilot in our own ships? It would be simple enough to have the same potential consequences from having missions or cargo while flying. You could still get interdicted and all that. I'm curious on everyone's thoughts.
