Station not doing anything when getting camped.

As in the title, I had landed at farseer inc to do some engineering. Did what I wanted to do, and then came back out. As I took off from the landing pad, I got shot at, and quickly destroyed.
“No problem.” I thought, I’ll let the station authority deal with that. Or some guns. Or anything. Anyway, I reload, and take off again. Again, I get shot. I manage to have more awareness this time, and find that my attacker is essentially untouched. Nothing is happening to them.
I’d be less salty if it had been an interdiction; rather than spawn camping. But I wondered if it was meant to be this way at the engineer’s places? I’ve retreated to private play with my partner for now, cause it wasn’t worth waiting for them to leave.
Also – got to ask, for spawn campers, what’s in it for you? This fellow got to kill what was essentially defenceless (I was in a barely engineered adder). If you wanted to smack around much weaker ships, why not beat up the AI?
