status of Odyssey for a VR player?

So I don't do a whole lot in ED when I play, just kinda like to fly around and see whatever. I found the game world and missions just kinda hollow. Never could bring myself to grind any engineer non-sense. Trucking and aimless exploration is all I do.

All I really want from Odyssey is to see some much better planets and general graphics. As it is, the bitmap-iness of gas giants and stuff gets bothersome. A new avenue of gameplay that feels a lot more fleshed out would be cool but don't have any hopes (no FPS related crap). I know there are some big performance problems but I can currently run it in VR almost maxed with my 1070ti/ 7700/ 24gb setup, surprisingly. I have seen contradicting statements about the effects of Odyssey in VR. I don't mind an occasional glitch or stutter but something persistent would be awful. So I'm just asking if Odyssey brings what I'm looking for- visually better galaxy without drastic performance loss.
