Two years. That’s how long it’s been since STW got new weapons, and how long it’s been advertised as a “premium experience”. Update 13.20 was released on June 30th, 2020, exactly two years ago, and it added the Art Deco set. While the Art Deco weapons are good, and plenty of fun overall, we have received nothing since then. There have been a few heroes alongside new questlines, and some occasional ability reworks, but no new guns or melee weapons. Meanwhile Battle Royale has continued to regularly receive new map changes, cosmetics, items, quests, crossoevers and weapons in that time. Yes, that was the day STW left early access and was labelled as “finished”, but BR was arguable complete for ages before that announcement, and it’s still receiving new content on a frequent basis.
Fortnite is considered a “live service” game, the Devs themselves saying so, and BR has been treated as such, but despite STW being the original Fortnite, it has not been treated as “live service”. While the addition of content has slowed for BR since the end of chapter one, it is still receiving plenty of updates, with one or two weapons being added each new season. Multiple times in the past, BR weapons have been recycled for STW, to save time on modelling, sound effects, and animations, but this has halted completely… just because?
In the time between 13.20 and now, BR has received at least 34 functionally unique weapons, which doesn’t include changes and additions like:
· The Season 14 superpowers
· Exotics
· The Makeshift weapons
· Numerous map changes, including an entire new map
· The new movement mechanics
· Any other new mechanics/season gimmicks, like this season’s reality saplings
Meanwhile STW has received:
· Ventures
· 6 new functionally unique Heroes
· A new dungeon
· Wildlife
· Miscellaneous ability buffs
