Nvidia Freestyle Filters were a tool offered by Nvidia GeForce that allowed gamers to tweak their gamma, color vibrance, saturation and a handful of other lighting settings on a game by game basis. Players realised they could finagle these settings to enhance their visibility in Tarkov, rather than altering their monitor settings when they wanted to swap to Tarkov from ordinary desktop use. Both Freestyle and tweaking your monitor settings offered improved visibility without a performance hit.
Discord is a private chat program that allows players to connect, organise and communicate through text chats and VC. Players have long been Discord to establish private voice communications with their squad mates in Tarkov to bypass the in-game comms which would require them to give away their positions to nearby players and AI Scavs.
Battlestate Games reached out to Nvidia to opt out of allowing players to utilize Nvidia Freestyle within Tarkov due to concerns about players using the third party software to gain an information advantage over players who used in-game lighting solutions, such as flashlights and night vision goggles, which would ordinarily require those players to bring additional items with them into their raids, and either give away their position or bring an expensive helmet.
After player backlash regarding the loss of Nvidia Freestyle's color vibrance filters, BSG added an in-game after effects solution, which unfortunately requires players to choose between increased saturation, and their game's performance.
Battlestate Games has added an in-game VC system, which allows players to communicate within their vicinity with greater clarity of intent than the precorded VL system offers. VC allows players to communicate in-raid at the cost of revealing their position to nearby players and aggroing nearby AI Scavs. Players who continue to use Discord to communicate outside of the in-game VC or VL systems are utilizing third party software to avoid the drawbacks of utilizing the in-game communication systems which are already in place.
This brings me to my question: Which piece of third-party software provides a more unfair in-game advantage between Nvidia Freestyle and Discord and should BSG reach out to Discord to have the program disallow it's users to participate in calls while EFT is running, as they did when they requested that Nvidia Freestyle be disabled for Tarkov?
