I get it, you want something fresh and interesting and whatnot, but are you trying too hard some times? In contrast with some really successful and "historical" 3D styles – this whole writeup is IMHO, needless to say – like the IDF captured Egyptian 430U "Kelevra” or the equivalent “Sekhmet” Obj 140 etc, I think you are going too far off-track with some of the latest styles.
I am mainly focusing on the latest style for the M48:
Too many great details in isolation, but…overall too much?
There are so many excellent unique styles you could go for, based on a tank with so wide adoption. You can find Greek M48s, Korean M48s, ofc IDF Magach 3~5 M48s, ofc lots of Vietnam stuff and whatnot (just to name a few). You could do many of them with a similar kit of parts ( I mean, who can resist external coax MGs) and small variations + different colors, instead of focusing so much of your artist's time into minute details that are perhaps overwhelming when brought together.
Eg:
Greece
Korea:
Isreal: Magach 3
This should have a far wider appeal than the single "surfer dude M48" with the 10-15 more easter eggs…just saying…there are so many more possible variations, especially for tanks with great history, including the Centurions and whatnot.
Ok, we had our run with bands and this and that, but hey, lets see some more fun stuff. Doesn't need to be so complicated and/or expensive to produce for you, or that expensive for players to adopt.
For example, a "2.5"D style that just adds Zimmerit to german tanks would be amazing IMHO, as a layer in combination with other custom camo stuff – as you do with that weathering/wear layer that is already there and probably no one cares for much.
