I don’t understand how the mechanics of “spotting” is working.

Despite this video and the tactics they're trying to push it's very clear to me that it's not working. Using MBT's including Tiger I (which likely make more noise than the others), I'm spotted constantly. If I'm idle, if I'm in a bush, back of the map, centre of the map, front of the map it doesn't matter. I'm constantly spotted by enemies that have no sight line on me whatsoever and that i can't see. I've had tanks run up on me from 50m away and I'm getting hit before they're showing up, I've been hit by tanks I'm looking directly at, i know they're there and I'm waiting for a move. Nope, they're CLEARLY right in front of me, but they disappear and they get hits and kills on me.
The mechanics of this video game are broken beyond disbelief from the tanks i use and I'm curious if I'm the only one seeing this sort of thing. All tanks are different i understand that, but this is ridiculous IMO. I predominately use German tanks, and i rarely get first hits. I'm always spotted, and hit (even at the back of the map with SPG's) by arty or another tank i can't see.

Am i crazy? I feel like the design could have been so much better had they made larger maps and utilized cover and terrain. If we look at history, tanks were engaging targets upwards of 1 and 2 kilometres out, and yet i can't engage a tank in this game within full view (because it's somehow not spotted yet) 100m away. I've tried a variety of tactics but the end-game is the same. I feel like doing away with the "disappearing" act is the way to solve this issue entirely and have more apt terrain and cover for tanks. Battles might be more stagnate? I'm not sure? I understand the principles of the ideas and what's happening but i feel like it's very unbalanced.
