The Future of WoT

Multiplayer games all have an expiry date. Eventually, the last match will be played, the servers will go down, and even if a select few try to keep the game alive, this doesn't tend to end well (what with copyright and IP laws and all that).

A few months ago, the long running MOBA Heroes of Newerth had its servers shut down permanently, and this got me thinking: what about WoT?

WoT's peak popularity was around 2014ish I think, breaking 1 million concurrent users, and since then the game seems to have as been in a state of slow decline in terms of player count. But the key word here is slow. It's still a big game, especially in EU and RU. And I think a lot of players are really dedicated to it and its segment in the market, and will likely continue to play for years to come. Given that it is wargaming's main product, you'd think they should be treating it well too in terms of balancing and updates too (lol).

But of course WoT will eventually die. The question is when? The most popular games have a lot of time – e.g. I can't see LoL dying in the next 50 years – but will WoT live out the next 10? It's very hard to guess. Personally I can see it surviving until the mid 2030s, but beyond then… It's hard to say. Thoughts?
