Odyssey VR – Sharpening tweak and performance

Hey folks, just a quick nod to a little sharpening tweak that has made the game playable in VR for me.

Previously I've been unable to achieve even 80 fps reliably on an Index, 1080ti(2038mhz), 3900X(Tuned PBO/EDC bug), 32gb 3600 CL16(Tuned) with all settings set to Low or Off where available. As I expect for many of us, Horizons ran amazing and made me fall in love with the game.

I'm currently running with many settings on high or medium, using EDTutorials graphics guide, which could probably use an update with the new renderer, as a baseline and tweaking where I felt it was needed. I have my Index subsampled to 80% and a Reshade sharpening filter that sure makes it tolerable to me. Possible placebo but I tested and tweaked all weekend and feel like I've found a decent compromise to at least play the game.

Currently running 80hz, settings blended medium/high, 80% SS, sharpening filter installed

I still get reprojection occasionally, mostly on planets but far less than I did before and even with the resolution hit the sharpening filter seems to really help a lot with little to no performance cost.

This isn't ideal, and this is absolutely an issue with FDev and their implementation of VR in Odyssey. It's simply broken, no doubt about it. But this might be a viable work around for you to buy some time if/until they do something about it. I'll continue testing/tweaking and update if I get anywhere better, along with a full settings list.

Don't sleep on that sharpener even if you think your performance is fine, it's super easy to install and appears to help immensely, allowing less SS and more performance headroom for higher in game settings.

YMMV of course but I hope it helps others out there.
