What with Christmas happening, lots of new players are in possession of Elite.
They look at the Steam store page for the specs:
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM:
- OS: Windows 8/10 64-bit
- Processor: Quad Core CPU (4 x 2Ghz)
- Memory: 6 GB RAM
- Graphics: Nvidia GTX 470/AMD R7 240
- DirectX: Version 11
RECOMMENDED:
- OS: Windows 8/10 64-bit
- Processor: Intel Core i7-3770K Quad Core CPU or better / AMD FX 4350 Quad Core CPU or better
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics: Nvidia GTX 770 / AMD Radeon R9 280X
- DirectX: Version 11
So what does "minimum" mean? I take it to mean 30 fps at 720p, lowest settings, so given those specs and the current game, is it possible to run at that level?
And 'recommended' I take as 60 fps at 1080p, medium settings. Can the stated specs handle this?
I bring this up because what with 4.0 being the new face of Horizons, players with budget rigs are going to have an extremely rough time playing live, I bet. Then their choices are to spend money and upgrade, or play Legacy, which has virtually no playerbase, no maintenance, no thargoid war, and reduced third party tools that we've all come to enjoy and rely on.
I think that if Frontier are going to make the 4.0 codebase the mainstay of their flagship product, then they need to update their minimum and recommended specs accordingly.
TL;DR, Horizons 4.0 need beefier computer, steam page still has 3.8 spec requirements, I think they should be updated to be on par with or close to Odyssey's stated specs.
