Hi Valheim Community,
Today, for the first time, my dedicated server is no longer working. There were 2 Windows updates recently that might have broken it, I'm not sure.
- 2023-02 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 22H2 for x64 (KB5022497)
- 2023-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5022845)
Basically, I start the dedicated server as I always have using a batch file with public 1.
Port Forwarding is configured on my Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro.
The Valheim server checker over at shows the server is online and reachable. It also shows up under the "Community" server tab.
I launch Valheim and since I host the dedicated server, I connect to or localhost:2456 like I always have. However, it just says "Connecting" and after a few seconds goes back to the Main menu with "Failed to connect". I tried connecting via Community and using server name too. No luck.
My network drivers are up to date. I have checked Windows Firewall and all is well there. I even reset it and let it automatically recreate the rules again for both Private and Public profiles. I disabled my Wi-Fi NIC in Device Manager to rule out another NIC maybe interfering with my LAN NIC.
I've even reinstalled both Valheim and the Dedicated Server from Steam. Still the same thing. I've also reset the network stack using netstat.
Any other ideas? I'm thinking perhaps the .NET framework update (That Windows doesn't allow me to uninstall) broke something? That's my best guess at this point…
