Bit-sized stories of my Valheim Adventures.
Helhalla 3
Harpoons are one of THE greatest tools in the game. Let me tell you why.
Hands down.
If you can harpoon your friend, you can harpoon a troll.
You can walk a dragon, or even tow your inflatable friend in the ocean with a 2000kg cart attached to drag back those extra loads of silver. (Of course Cnut volunteered for that.)
Sackson on the other hand liked to walk the Drakes around on leashes. And then we discovered you can skull drag and slingshot trolls into the ocean which is simultaneously amusing yet horrifying when they have logs.
Well it's day three, Cnut, Sackson and I are venturing across open water to what would be the first mountain and snow I'd seen. Cnut decided he wanted a pair of 2 star wolves to bring back and breed.
^ I found the infamous slingshot device screenshot!
(This is the Viking Space program Cnut and Sackson came up with, as described in Helhalla 1)
We venture around several areas, the mountains, and the outskirts of a small swamp.
But I keep getting weirded out by a Grim Reaper.
At first I thought he was some demon that would go all Ubaba-mode (Spirited Away) Dash across the ground and impale me.
But as we saw him more often. the one-eye gave him away pretty quickly as Odin.
So, was the All-Father hostile, was he trying to tell me something? Could I shoot him (yes) Does he do or drop anything?
Well. I was kind of disappointed to learn he served no purpose bar a visual alarm clock for dawn/dusk.
But It was cool to later learn of Thor, whom flys through the skies during storms on chains of lightning..
Okay, technically 'Thor' Is just a flying wooden wagon.
The same we use to haul our ores around. But..
The implemented idea behind the Token Gods showing up, always has me looking forward to new additions such as a Loki (Nifflheim/Deep North), Freya(Mistlands), Balder (Cloudlands), Fenrir (Deep North), Jormungandr (Ocean World), Fire Giant Surtr (Muspelheim/Ashlands) or even a Sleipnir (6 legged horse) oneday in game. This game has so much potential to expand upon.
So I've leveled a little by this time, but the Skeletons still pack a punch. We hadn't had much lunch 2 star hunting yet and I wasnt strong enough to go it alone so head back down into the Crypts, immersed so much into the game that the sounds were on full Dolby horror mode.
Even after they were all dead the crypts are a fun and chilling experience. Especially when you come across a ghost. If the Dev Team increase ghosts frequency and possibly zombies, it would be a game changer for an underground realm.
So like all things humans seem obsessed with, I wanted to build the highest tower in the village.
With a solid support like a castle, surely I could hit height limits the others couldn't? I didn't yet know the benefits of Core wood or reinforced beams.
A little more building later, the guys had returned from work and we were back to adventuring.
This time Sackson had brought a fellow Server member.
Meet Thornk. Thornk is the nice conversation guy.
If these 3 were locked in a room together, Sackson would figure out a way to get the keys, Cnut would find a way to get out without needing keys, meanwhile Thornk would befriend his guard and get let out.
Hes a well rounded player, not as quick as Sackson, nor as fearless and lucky as Cnut, but the guy could grind.
So we channel our inner Goat-Wolf and climb the mountain.
I think by this stage we were looking for Moder and wolves..
We don't find much, but do mark out some new snow areas for future.
A while later I return to my castle to find a group of strange little Green men I've never seen before laughing..
But there were 2 big dudes in tow. If Lord Of The Rings taught me anything about Orcs and creatures, its the bigger they are the worse they get.
All of them were coming out from the Edge of the Cursed Trench between my house and the hub..
But the worst thing about them wasnt how easily they were outrunning me down… that was terrifying.. but that, unlike the dwarves, these dudes seemed a little smarter.
Aggro Berserker battle cries suddenly instilled a sense of urgency like that of your dad grabbing the belt to whoop your ass..
To be continued..
