my pro rank journey this season

witcher gwent cards

This season was probably easily the most fun i've ever had in Gwent.

Managed some personal bests this season. I wanted to share in the hopes it encourages discussion and others to post about how this past season went.

Peak MMR 9914

A bunch of people will pass me these final hours of this season, but i'll likely still end up top 300 range, which is far better than any previous season (475th was my previous best).

I'm not a particularly great pro player normally. Usually end up around 9750-9800 MMR most seasons, and have only gotten into top 500 once.

This season was different, and had [for me] really good success with two factions.

I tend to have limited playtime, so i generally only focus on four factions. It became apparent that post-balance council vote* (*BC1), NR would have been really nice to have been in those factions, but i'd not played them prior, so didn't want to invest that level of time.

My main push into pro was with Precision Strike Constructs + Dennis & Dwarves.

I believe i did play the GT Milva version a decent bit earlier on, but at some point i got frustrated with how bad at counting for Milva i was, and kept finding movement w/ her was resulting in so many awkward plays so i decided to redo the deck into what i linked to.
No doubt it's not as good at the version the top pros were running, but it worked better for me.

I didn't really have much success with ST. I tried Harmony, a little PS Renfri Dragons Scholars, and some of the Mahakam Forge Constructs Dennis going around, today, but didn't really get anywhere.
My main "climbing" was w/ Symbiosis and the first deck i mentioned.

SY. Well, SY got absolutely gutted in BC1. I had been playing Vice before, but after, there wasn't a single SY deck i had any kind of success with. I mostly did some Tamara Bounty and then finally this: https://www.playgwent.com/en/decks/9cc6e513835c1724b84f833a012e902d
Wasn't really able to get anywhere.

SK was my favourite time in pro this season, by far.
I don't like GN Compass and really didn't enjoy facing it so often, but i found success elsewhere.

BoG Kraken Beasts was what i ran earlier on, and managed to actually climb a decent bit.

Kraken is a difficult card to achieve great value from, though, and eventually i went back to a neutered version of my PF version:

Reached my best MMR for SK w/ that.

MO is in a great place on ladder right now. They have a whole bunch of viable archetypes.
I played Archas Idr, Fruits w/ Beasts, a little Thrive, and for the main climbing, Ogroids.

As much as there is great consternation about NG's lessened power from higher up, it was really nice to see them far less frequently this season.

I think the most irritating thing to deal w/ this season was SK GN Compass. This deck (in various variations), is extremely strong if piloted properly. They can easily win r1, or lose it and defend a bleed, and set up exactly the r3 they want.
It doesn't matter if the round is short or long, it's very strong. This deck is not something that should be able to run Compass.

The other card i have concerns with is Reaver Scout (and STILL Mutagenerator/Temple). All three of these cards are not where they need to be for provision cost.

I am expecting a lot less fun next season with NG likely being restored to a much stronger level again, and due to so few changes, a lot less chaos to have fun with early on.
