Rumplenutskn’s VSS/AS Val guide for patch 0.12

Hey guys, I put together a video guide on the VSS/Val. I never got to run it last wipe since I was constantly broke. However, it has become one of my favorite guns this patch. I always hated video guides that didn't also come with a text guide so here we go.

First lets start with the best in slot / meta builds. Here are links to the part list.

As you can see for the best recoil you simply need the Toz-6P29M mount and rk-2 foregrip. I personally like to run the RK-1 for a more balanced recoil and ergo grip. The OKP dovetail scope also hinders your ergo but will grant 1 reduction in recoil. The introduction of the low profile svd mount allows for some nice snappy sights. I was also surprised to learn the base Val stock is best in slot for recoil.

I personally prefer the ergo build val when I run these as it lets you survive ambushes you probably shouldn’t. I go over the cost prices in the video but the tl;dr is that the ergo Val is the most expensive version of all the guns (133k before mags and ammo).

Outside of the builds some things I’ve learned the hard way are to follow. You absolutely need the 30 rounder mags. Yes they are 21k a pop but if that's a problem, just use another gun. Obviously you can do whatever you damn well please, but to get the most out of this gun you need four or five 30-rounders and I even keep two 50 stacks of ammo in my gamma. This seems to be the sweet spot of medium to long raids with multiple firefights.

For ammo I personally use the SPP. I buy it on cooldown from prapor between raids Im not using the Vss/Val and in this way I never run out. You can also use the SP-6 as there is not a huge difference in stats. I’d recommend staying away from SP-5. I can’t say I’ve ever used BP as that shit is just crazy expensive and I do fine with SPP.

Pros of this gun include: amazing recoil, great CQB gun, heavy bullet damage, and most importantly super silenced shots. Other guns like the m4 and HKs must sacrifice recoil to become silenced this thing has laser recoil AND silenced shots.

Cons: Range, Once you get out of the 50m you start to have problems dropping people. At 100+ you’re better off repositioning closer or just not engaging. Testing this thing in the gun range has produced strange results long range.

Maps: My favorite for the Vss/Val in order are Interchange,Customs,Labs,Reserve,Factory,Shoreline,Woods

Interchange: A+ , Inty is a close range map on the inside so avoid outdoor engagements. This thing fucks Killa up. It's get bonus points for being able to preserve his armor with low recoil leg shots. This gun shines in close combat and there is only one or two long halls on the map you will have problems engaging with. It's also great for shooting through Kiba glass and overlook glass with its high pen. Put it on single fire and tap away. 5/5 my favorite gun for Interchange.

Customs A-, It's great if you are looking to clear out PMCs or Reshala in dorms. It’s good for pushing gas station. It does suffer on some spots with longer range engagements but that's what cover and sprinting is for.

Labs B, I don’t love labs, it’s one of my least played maps so take this with a grain of salt. The Val/Vss absolutely dumpsters raiders and players alike. The reason I don’t rank it higher is sustainability. The biggest mag you can bring is 30. If you have to bring a rig full of mags to not run out of ammo, you are losing out of potential loot to bring home.

Reserve B-, There ARE close quarter fights that happen on reserve, but the majority are going to be medium range engagements. I much prefer something like an AK or M4 for those ranges. Another con is fighting scav boss. I’ve often been caught trying to reload my tiny 30 rounder by scav rushes where my 60 round ak would be able to keep on dumping. If you have a squad this gun is great for being the CQB guy in the group.

Factory C, this runs into the similar problems as labs.It works great for the close ranges but its an issue of profitability. Yes it's all close combat, but it's a really expensive loadout (150-300k) for little profit in return. The silencer also doesn't help as much as it would in a map with bushes and more verticality.

Shoreline C-, I just hate shoreline. I have to imagine it's great for the resort part of the map. Outside of that is large open fields. Fuck this map.

Woods D+, The VSS has sniper in its name but it has no range. I often see lower level PMCs running this with a long range pko sight. You are better off bringing a realyrumim marksman or sniper and silencing it. Again, if you are squaded up you can elect to be CQB guy but you are limiting yourself solo.

Let me know if I missed anything or you guys have any tips I can add. Stop by my twitch if you so feel inclined. Twitch.com/Rumplenutskn Thanks!
