So you're just starting out or maybe you've been hopping around for awhile but all that engineering stuff seems out of reach. You got some money but your best ship jumps 10LY. Guardian sites are 1000LY away, you don't have time for 200 jumps there and back.
You need to build this ship. Right now. It's going to help you do everything. No engineering required and extremely cheap.
This is going to be your taxi around the bubble for your entire career. It's not for open (though if you want to risk it, it's a very cheap rebuy). It doesn't boost. It doesn't go fast in normal space. It will however get you to everything you need to do engineering-wise, it will take you to those guardian sites, it will take you to the Jameson Crash site for data, and it will take you to the Crystal Shard sites for raw materials, stop and scoop up any High Grade Emissions you see. Anywhere you want to go and not spend a lot of time jumping. Use it to move around quickly and then transfer your real ship to a station. You even have a little cargo for some of the engineer unlocks. Want to join the Thargoid war but you need unlocks and engineering? This is where you start.
The point is your jump range makes everything easier and this is the way to get that range as a new player.
Next: get your guardian FSD booster unlocked. Do it now. That's your biggest upgrade you can throw on any ship in the game. A flat boost to jump range based on the size of module you use, and you unlock all sizes with a single unlock. Here's your little DBX with one.
Now you're really going places. With nearly 50LY jumps you can check out sites you've heard of that offer materials without spending all day getting there. And you still haven't engineered anything, but if you're going to:
68LY jumps. It may not be the biggest or best, and it may explode if you fly it into a noob hammer, but it will take you anywhere you want to go. And when you want to get stuff done in this game, it helps so much just to be able to get there fast.
