Characters that deserve cards #6 – Weekend Lore Ramblings

witcher triss merigold gwint

Last week, I couldn't deliver any Ramblings, because there was a lot going on, but today we're back with some more characters from the Witcher Lore who should be in Gwent, but they're not. Today's post will cover some soldiers from the Northern Realms. So, enough of the introduction, let's get into it.

Digod the Half-pot (Digod Półgarniec) – a centurion (setnik) of the Dun Banner (Bura Chorągiew), Kaedweni light cavalry from Ban Gleann. His nickname derived from the fact that he was exceptionally "talented" in drinking, he could drink half a pot of booze (the book mentions a specific type, przepalanka, but I don't know how it would be called in English) in very impressive time without spilling anything. He even went to battles usually drunk. His Dun Banner "repossesed" the lands of Upper Aedirn and was a part, along with the Redanian forces, of a succor that came to help Northern Realms armies in the Battle of Brenna. The only thing about his appearence we know is that he had a moustache.

Zyvik – a decurion (dziesiętnik) of the Dun Banner serving under Digod. We first meet him when he and his Soldiers cross the path of Geralt, Triss, Ciri and Yarpen Zigrin's convoy near Sherrawedd. He inspects the wagons checking for human contraband, but Triss casts a spell on him, so he forgets seeing her and Ciri and lets the convoy move on. Later we see him after Digod gave him the orders (which came from above) of "repossesing" the Upper Aedirn. The orders were not to burn villages, rape or murder people, because it is "a brotherly help" and not a conquest at least officially. While passing those orders to the soldiers (we know a name of one of them, Kraska) he advises them to rape women quietly and without being spotted. We also meet him in The Witcher 2 in Keadweni army camp. He helps us in a quest of learning about the Battle of Vergen and we can play dice with him.

The other decurions of the Dun Banner mentioned by the books were: Bode and Stalher

Blenheim Blenckert – a Redanian general, the commander of the forces that came with the succor to Northern armies during the Battle of Brenna wich consised of Redanian soldiers and Kaedweni Dun Banner. Prior to his arrival onto the battlefield, the commander of the Northern forces, Jan Natalis said: "Give me Blenckert or give me night" which is a reference to the words reportedly said by Duke Wellington during the Battle of Waterloo.

Aplegatt – an Aedirnian horse messenger serving king Demawend. Described as short, but strong and sinewy, he was out of work because rulers used mages to deliver messages. But before the start of the Second Northern War (Druga Wojna Północna) he was suddenly brought back to service. In Wyzima, King Foltest ordered him to tell King Vizimir about Nilfgaard's provocation regarding Imperial army crossing the river Jaruga (on his way, at one of the stops, he met Yennefer and Ciri, who fell into a trance and fortold his death). He delivered the message not to the King himself, but to Dijkstra, who told him to tell Demawend to withhold the offensive onto Jaruga. On the way he was killed by Yeavinn's and Toruviel's Scoia'tael before he was able to deliver the message. Because of that, Lyrian and Aedirnian forces went on with the offensive and started the war against Nifgaard, the Second Northern War.

A custom card for Aplegatt – I forgot to add deploy in the ability lol

Bronibor – Temerian voivode (wojewoda). When Foltest received a Nifgardiaan envoy, he was furious that the king didn't execute him. He wrote a military strategy book „Przewagi elearów redańskich”. During the Battle of Brenna, he commanded the Poor Fucking Infantry (Biedna Pierdolona Piechota), a formation consisting of unskilled volunteers and only because of his command it actually became useful to the Northern forces instead of being slaughtered by Nilfgaard. Bronibor himself, however, died from his injuries after the battle.
