Paying off your own bounty is a joke right?

So I am doing a group of missions to kill like 50 dumbass pirates, you know some good old fashioned cleansing. Around the 30th or so kill I get a bit sloppy and accidently lock onto a neutral npc and shoot him once before realizing my mistake. Oh no, a 300 credit bounty. How ever will I recover?

Anyways so I go to the nearest station to pay it off, before some mall cop ass motherfucking npcs annoy me while I am literally cleansing their shit ass system of filth. I give them credits, which is the equivalent of a piece of toilet paper or something, and think I will go on my merry way.

Ambush! I am suddenly detained? They ask me what ship I would like to go to prison with so I pick my dumbass vulture. Now I am 200+ light years from where I was. What the fuck, why? For a 300 credit bounty they take the immense expense of moving me and my ship way the fuck away to buttfuck Egypt? That makes zero sense from a realism perspective and from a gameplay perspective.

So I ask, paying off your bounty own is some sort of joke right? I would've been better off playing suicide by cop.
