Some quick criticism after a first playthrough

Valheim – Quick Tips to Start

  • I get why you can't transport ores through portals. But it should be possible through a lategame upgrade. Maybe even an upgrade you acquire gradually through bosses (example: beat Bonemass and you can teleport copper; beat Moder and you can teleport iron; etc)
  • Bronze is most people's first impression of the game, it shouldn't be the most boring of all minerals. Could easily be fixed by making it so you only need 1 copper for each bronze bar.
  • Taming requiring being near the animal for 30 minutes has to be looked into. I get why this rule exists, but 30 minutes of AFKing is not a good look. Maybe the process could be sped up if the player actively interacted with the animal? (Like: 30 minutes of passive taming or 15 minutes of active taming)
  • There's gotta be an easier way to support structures with beams while keeping the grid alignment, right now it requires way too many shenanigans and youtube tutorials to so much as support an underwater bridge or even a roof
  • Workbenches shouldn't be the only way to block enemy spawns, they're so ugly. There should be decorative items (like plants) that block enemy spawns and don't waste away with rain. It'd be interesting if the ingredients were moderately rare (like beehives), because then there would be a new gameplay loop behind base expansion.
  • There should be a harvesting tool that lets you harvest all crops (even carrots/onions) slightly faster, right now it's ridiculous to spend 15 minutes holding E every 1 hour, makes farming at large scale unviable when it really shouldn't be (and everyone just uses farming mods anyways to counter this exact situation)
  • Raids are fine the way they are, if anything they could be more frequent (and less random), those who complain and seek to deactivate them from normal playthroughs don't understand how vital they are to the gameplay loop, hope the devs don't back out on this one
  • Workbench/Forge upgrades shouldn't require so much cheese to place without being in view
  • Game needs more sea monsters, boats, customization and sea related building/crafting. It's probably planned but it's just an area that feels particularly underdeveloped right now
  • I'm surprised the map still only has 5 types of markers considering how easy it would be for the developers to add dozens of new ones, and how much of a universally loved quality of life change this would be
