Toxic players have ruined the game for me and I don’t know what to do about it.

I started playing Apex towards the end of season 2. I'm a casual player, probably pretty average in skill, and I found the gameplay to be very welcoming to someone with fps experience but new to the battle royale format. I was making friends in games and when someone had a microphone, I would turn on my headset and engage.

The past few weeks the vast majority of players with a microphone have only used it to verbally abuse the team; calling me trash, the n-word, telling me to kill myself, blaming me for their elimination, harassing me in messages after the match, telling me to quit the game. The only ways I feel I can escape it is to uninstall the game. I really don't want to do this because I have enjoyed it until recently and am was looking forward to the next season.

Muting all squads isn't an answer because it punishes those who are civil and they send me messages after the match (or even during) after they rage quit anyway. If I get eliminated, I can't access the squad menu to mute them as they lay into me for making a mistake, so on ranked I can either dash and give them loss forgiveness or quit and take a penalty. I report them, but there's no way of telling if anything happens and the damage is done. I feel trapped in an abusive relationship with the game.

I know that you can't control people and there are always going to be jerks in any community, especially one of a competitive nature, but it has become overwhelming, and the past 3 days I have contemplated uninstalling and being done with it.

If you see this, please try to make the community better. Turn off your mic if you feel like raging. Don't message after a match to hate on someone who is trying. You don't have to be Mr. Rogers, but please try to consider that there is a person on the receiving end of your abuse.
